Write Essay Predictions — Repeated Topics

Updated for July 2026. PTE essay prompts repeat at the topic level: the same questions about technology, education, work and society come around across papers, and test takers report them. You cannot memorise an essay — the scoring rewards what you write on the day — but walking in having already planned the recurring topics means your twenty minutes go into writing quality, not idea-hunting. This is a PTE Academic task; PTE Core candidates write emails instead.

How to use repeated essay topics

Plan the ranked topics first

For each recently reported prompt, sketch a position and two supporting arguments. Ten minutes of planning per topic converts to calm, structured writing if it appears.

Write a timed essay on the top few

Full 20-minute attempts with instant AI feedback on grammar, vocabulary and structure — planning alone doesn't build the writing speed the clock demands.

Reuse the frame, never the sentences

Your rehearsed structure transfers to any prompt, including unseen ones. Recycled memorised paragraphs that ignore the actual question lose content marks fast.

Why topic prediction works differently here

For memory tasks like Write from Dictation, a repeat is almost a direct mark. For essays, a repeat is a head start: the thinking is pre-done, the writing still has to happen. That is why essay prediction pays most for candidates whose ideas come slowly under pressure — and why it never replaces timed writing practice. Combine the repeated-topics list with the essay template on our Write Essay guide and every prompt, seen or unseen, meets the same prepared machine.

Frequently asked questions

Do PTE essay topics repeat?

Yes — prompts recur at the topic level and test takers report the same essay questions across papers. The answers are never reusable: scoring grades what you write against the prompt on the day, so preparation means planning topics, not memorising essays.

How many PTE essay topics should I prepare?

Plan the recently reported, highest-ranked topics properly — position, arguments, example — rather than skimming hundreds. A prepared topic takes minutes to plan and pays the full head start if it appears; a skimmed list pays nothing.

Can I use a memorised essay in PTE?

No — a memorised essay that doesn't answer the actual prompt loses content marks, and template-heavy text with thin original content scores poorly on the traits that matter. Rehearse a structure, plan topics, and write fresh on the day.

Does PTE Core have an essay task?

No — PTE Core replaces the essay with Write Email, which repeats at the scenario level instead. Core candidates should practise the recurring email scenarios and the email template rather than essay topics.
