How PTE Core listening is scored
Objective tasks score per blank, per word (dictation) or per selection, with negative marking on Multiple Choice Multiple Answers and Highlight Incorrect Words. The SST summary is graded on content, form and language. Because dictation feeds both listening and writing bands, it is the most efficient task in the section to over-practise — especially for candidates whose CLB target is capped by either band. It is also Core's most repeated task: sentences reported from recent exams sit at the top of the prediction tier, ready to practise before they meet you in the test.
